The dam, which is about a mile upstream, and the pipeline and tunnel system were completed in December 1949 and were one of the first phases of the project.

Water now spurts from several places from the wood-stave before it enters a tunnel through Deer Leap Rock. This aqueduct and pipeline system diverts much of the North Umpqua River from Toketee Falls to a powerhouse downstream.

From the trailhead, travel along the stream and large trees then start climbing a series of stairs. Some of the stairs are basalt and others are wood. Climb up several sets of stairs, then walk back down several sets of stairs down to a wooden viewing platform across from the falls.

Toketee Falls has an upper and lower falls framed by columnar basalt cliffs. The North Umpqua River flows through the narrow canyon and first plunges over a 28 foot drop and then an 85 foot drop into a nice pool. Lake Toketee, about .75 mile upstream, provides a near constant flow of water all year long.

There are benches to sit on at the viewpoint and enjoy this classic waterfall. After enjoying the view of the falls, return back along the short trail to the parking lot.

Happy Trails and enjoy the photos,
Gallery Pics
Switchback Steve

[19,37,38
145,28
post-514","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-dayhikes","category-easy-hikes","category-hikes-with-kids","tag-tokatee","tag-waterfall
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.1.1 -
