Vicinity Location:<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>About 40 miles west of Portland,\u00a0OR.<\/p>\n

Directions:<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>From Portland, take Highway 26 west for about 20\u00a0miles. Take the left exit for Hwy 6 towards Banks, Tillamook, and Forest Grove.
\nThis road is also known as the Wilson\u00a0River Highway.<\/p>\n

For the Elk Mountain trailhead: Continue on\u00a0Highway 6 for 23.5 miles from the junction Hwy 26 and Hwy 6 and make a right
\njust after milepost 28 and drive on a dirt road about .3 mile and pull into the\u00a0first or second parking lot at Elk\u00a0Creek Campground.<\/p>\n

For the King\u2019s Mountain trailhead: Continue on Highway 6 for 26.5 miles from\u00a0the junction Hwy 26 and Hwy 6 to about milepost 25 and make a right into the\u00a0parking lot for King\u2019s Mountain Trail.<\/p>\n

No permits are required.<\/p>\n

There is an outhouse at this trailhead.<\/p>\n

Trail:<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>Wilson River Trail \u2013 Elk Creek to\u00a0King\u2019s Mountain Trail with connections to King\u2019s Mountain Trail and Elk\u00a0Mountain Trail.<\/p>\n

There is a geocache along trail at\u00a0Geocaching.com but it is only available to premium members.<\/p>\n

Length and\u00a0Elevation:<\/strong>
\n<\/strong>2 miles one way. Elevation gain of 500\u00a0feet and loss of 150 feet. Elevation at the trailhead is 450 feet, highest
\npoint is at 600 feet. Lowest elevation is 450 feet.<\/p>\n

Review: <\/strong>June 5, 2011.<\/p>\n

Walk through the low elevation forest. on an steady uphill grade for the first
\n.1 mile to a junction in a small saddle. Pass the saddle and start descending
\ndown switchbacks and cross Dog Creek on a single log bridge.<\/p>\n

Because of the plentiful fall and winter rains, moss adorns the older trees and
\nthe leaves of Vine Maple provide a colorful attraction in spring and fall. The
\ntrail comes into a large clearing drained by a small stream at the east end of
\nthe meadow and the trail crosses a log over the stream. It is interesting how
\nthe stream is wearing away the dirt and makes a small waterfall, like a
\nmicro-Niagara. The alders growing around the edges make a pleasant setting for
\nthe meadow and the trail skirts the meadow\u2019s edge. From here the trail gently
\nloses elevation<\/p>\n

After a few miles you reach a 4-way trail junction. Turn left onto the Kings
\nMountain Trail and walk the last .2 mile to the trailhead and parking area.<\/p>\n

This is a nice hike and can be hiked
\nmost any time of year. The low elevation, creeks, and meadow also make
\nthe trail popular for mountain bikes.<\/p>\n
