The trailhead is about 62 miles east of Portland, Oregon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directions:<\/strong>
From Portland, OR, take I-84 east to exit 64 at Hood River. Pay the $3.50 toll, cross the Columbia River, and turn left onto WA-14 West towards Stevenson and Vancouver and drive 1.5 miles to WA-141 Alt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turn right onto WA-141 Alt\/WA-141 Alt North and drive 2.2 miles<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turn left at the stop sign to continue onto WA-141 N for 3.9 miles, driving towards BZ Corner and Trout Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turn right onto Indian Creek Road and drive 0.6 mile<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make a slight left onto Indian Cemetery Rd and drive 0.4 mile<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Park on the left at a wide spot in the road. If you get to the cemetery you have driven too far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A State of Washington Discover Pass is required for parking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no bathroom<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No dogs are allowed where the trail passes through the White Salmon Oak Natural Conservation Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Length and Elevation: 
<\/strong>Length 4.5 miles round trip. Total ascent 1,260 feet, descent 1,260 feet. Lowest elevation: 650 feet, highest elevation: 1,875 feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weldon Wagon Trail<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trailhead can be easy to miss so check the odometer and look at the trailhead picture in the photo gallery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go past the chained gate and walk up the gravel road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After walking up the gravel road for about 500 feet you can see the sign for the Weldon Wagon Road on the right and a footpath leading off the road. Follow the footpath into the trees and up the hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail climbs gently and soon rises above the forest floor. Here the trees change abruptly from pine and fir to white oaks. The underbrush thins and the views open up between the trees. The white oaks vary in size from youngsters to stocky trees that are over 100 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are nice views of Mt. Hood in the distance to the south and Augspurger Mountain towards the west. After travelling uphill about 1.8 miles the trail suddenly makes a turn to the left and enters a fir and hemlock forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wagon trail leaves the forest and heads down a grassy track along a tree farm and past some rusting farm equipment to the Sanborn Road Trailhead. Seeing the old farm equipment makes you think about the past and how technology has changed farming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Return back on the same trail enjoying the views from travelling back down the trail. Since this is a short hike you could combine this with the nearby Sleeping Beauty hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
