9/12/2017 – In case you didn’t know, many places in the Northwest are on fire or have recently burned.
Most trails on the south side of the Columbia River Gorge near Portland are closed and as of 9/12/2017, The I-84 freeway just east of Portland to Hood River is closed.
Many areas around Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Hood are closed.
A lot of the eastern portion of Mt. Rainier is closed.
Many areas in Glacier National Park are closed.
Forest fires are burning in Idaho.
Several fires are burning in California, including fires in Sequoia National Forest and Yosemite National Park.
Large fires are burning in Canada, sending smoke south to the Pacific Northwest.
Many of these trails will remain closed long after fall rains put out the fires. Check land management websites and Inciweb for trail closures before you go hiking.
