There are two ponds along the lower trail in the Tom McCall Nature Preserve. This is the larger pond and it is at least a couple of acres in size. These ponds are a magnet for birds.

There are several nice overlooks of the Columbia River. In most places the cliffs below block most of the highway noise.

A Red-winged blackbird looks for dangererous tourists at the Tom McCall Nature Preserve. These birds love to hang around the ponds.
The white flowers of Fool's Onion (Latin name: Brodiana hyacinthina) dot the meadows in early to mid-May at the Tom McCall Nature Preserve.
