An old barn is across the streambed just outside the Tom McCall Nature Preserve.

There are two ponds along the lower trail in the Tom McCall Nature Preserve. This is the larger pond and it is at least a couple of acres in size. These ponds are a magnet for birds.
Poison Oak just leafing out in the spring. Some of the sprigs are in the trail Rowena Plateau Trail.
One area near the second pond sports a bit of Mimulus or Monkeyflower.
There are several nice overlooks of the Columbia River. In most places the cliffs below block most of the highway noise.

Turkey Vultures lazily glide across the land looking for a meal at the Tom McCall Nature Preserve.
A Red-winged blackbird looks for dangererous tourists at the Tom McCall Nature Preserve. These birds love to hang around the ponds.
The white flowers of Fool's Onion (Latin name: Brodiana hyacinthina) dot the meadows in early to mid-May at the Tom McCall Nature Preserve.
