- Zach crossing a log bridge over the Carbon River on the way to Ipsut Campground.
- Yellowstone Cliffs just west of Windy Gap on the Northern Loop Trail.
- Van Horn Creek flows down a small waterfall into the meadow new the Lake James ranger cabin.
- These plants with pink flowers look like a giant version of Dutchman's Breeches (Latin name: Corydalis scouleri). They grow 5 to 6 feet high along the trail between Carbon River Camp and Ipsut Campground on the west side of Carbon River.
- The small lake at Windy Gap is just melting out in mid-July. We filtered water here for the trip down to the Carbon River.
- The ranger cabin for Lake James. This is a ways above the lake. The cabin got a new roof and luckily wasn't damaged from winter storms. Nearby trees were not so lucky and dozens were blown down in a tangled mess.
- Steve enjoying the view above Windy Gap. Tyee Peak is in the background. This was taken from the overlook of Cresent Lake.
- Standing at the overview of Crescent Lake looking at the Crescent Mountains and Mt. Rainier peeking out near Windy Gap.
- Snow on the Northern Loop trail near Windy Gap. The trail drops down and soon enters the forest on either side of Windy Gap.
- Sluiskin Mountain looms across the valley of Van Horn Creek.
- Our campsite at Lake James Camp along the Northern Loop Trail at Mt. Rainier National Park. We had the camp to ourselves this night. There was still a bit of snow by the bear pole in late July.
- Natural Bridge with Lake Ethel in the background.
- Natural Bridge is a 200 foot wide stone arch. The top is about five feet wide. Some people climb out onto it, a foolhardy act in the backcountry, in my opinion.
- Mt. Rainier is the white mass in back of Sluiskin Mountain. A sloping field of avalanche lillies decorate the nearby hillside.
- Looking up at Cresent Mountain from above Windy Gap. Cresent Lake is below this ridge on the right.
