- The steep slopes of the crater have rocks jutting from the snow-covered sides.
- The views never stop on a clear day.
- The warm weather of the previous day made it easy to cut snow blocks and the 20 degree night froze them together and made the roof strong enough to stand on.
- The Watchman has a fire lookout right at the summit. This is our destination for the day.
