- You can still smell the cedar from the timbers lining the Oneonta Tunnel. The tunnel has restored a few years with beautiful timbers.
- Wind Mountain seems so small and far below at this viewpoint along the Mt. Defiance Trail.
- Wildflowers growing along Newton Creek on the Newton Creek Trail. There were clumps of these low-growing flowers in both yellow and orange.
- Wildflowers blooming along the upper portion of the Hardy Ridge Loop Trail.
- Wildflowers blooming along the Hardy Ridge Loop Trail.
- Wildflowers bloom in meadows along the Timberline Trail.
- Wildflowers abound where Newton Creek Trail crosses on the north side of Newton Creek. The loose gravel provides a good spot for early colonizers.
- Watching the wind blow patterns on the Columbia River from Wind Mountain. The Columbia Gorge is well known for windy conditions. Windy days are more common than calm days in this part of the Gorge.
- Warren Lake provides a welcome break and the only place to filter water on the way to Mt. Defiance.
- Walking along the very narrow shoulder of the road you soon come to a small portion of the old Columbia River Highway. This shows the restored tunnel at Oneonta Creek. This tunnel is for bikes and foot traffic only.
- Walking a bit farther up the trail shows better views of Mt. Hood.
- Wahkeena Falls cascades in two tiers. This shows the upper tier of the waterfall.
- Wahkeena Falls cascades down the basalt cliffs in the Columbia River Gorge.
- Wahkeena Creek rushes down the canyon along the Wahkeena Falls Trail.
