- Big Spring gushes from a gully on the mountainside. A lot of alder grows around here because the ground is stable.

- Between Upper Twin Lake and Palmateer Point cutoff there are just a few glimpses through the forest to the ridges beyond.
- Between the meadow and Barlow Ridge is an open forest which is pretty easy to walk across the hillside.
- Between First Burroughs and Sunrise Walk-in camp is an overlook with a great view of Mt. Rainier. A shy Pika was looking for food below the overlook.
- Bert leg has a nice view of Mount Hood from the western shore. It is not easy to walk around this lake as there is a marshy area on the south east side of the lake.
