- High Lakes Trail, WA
- Bonneville Dam was near the starting elevation for this hike. The elevation gain is apparant and there is plenty more to come.
- Vernon carrying his pack along the trail on the way to Lunch Counter.
- There are some great fall colors along the trail. Here the red of a dogwood tree brightens the trail.
- Avalanche Lillies along the trail. This was their peak and we saw them throughout the trip.
- When James Longmire opened the resort at Longmire in the late 1800's, it was considered good health to drink from the soda springs and to bathe in the water.
- Western Hemlock (Latin name: Tsuga heterophylla) predominate the lower portions of this trail. Here is a picture of their soft, flat needles.

- A marmot hangs out near the Fryxell Overlook.
- The east side of Mt. Hood and the Newton-Clark Glacier below the peak. You can see the east side of Mt. Hood is much more rugged than the west side.

- Icicles decorate all the trees on 4th Crossing Trail along one of the forks of the Paradise River.
