- The log bridge over Clark Creek is so full of snow that it isn't useable until some of the snow melts. There are usually snow bridges just upstream from the bridge that are used.
- Avalanche Lillies along the trail. This was their peak and we saw them throughout the trip.

- Western Red Cedar (Latin name: Thuja plicata) showing the red hue of the bark of a tree that has had the bark continually rubbed by people walking on it. This is in a small Cedar grove along the trail at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.

- The Crooked River turns into Lake Billy Chinook at the turnaround point of the hike. High basalt cliffs provide a nice vantage point.
- Bunches of red and yellow Columbine flowers (Latin Name: Aquilegia formosa) blooming along the Owyhigh Trail in Mt. Rainier National Park.
- One of the less maintained sections of the trail near Olallie Lake on the PCT.

- A viewpoint along the Palmateer Point View Trail provides nice views of mountain ridges to the east.
- A massive rock towers over the upper falls of Palouse River.
