- Some rocks seem precariously balanced on the peaks of Smith Rock State Park.

- Mt. Hood from Silver Star Mountain. Smoke from the Dollar Lake fire partially obscures Mt. Hood.
- Travelling east, the trail uses an existing dike. Mt. Hood is partially eclipsed by the foothills to the southeast.
- I thought I would try taking a picture of Sweet Creek Falls from a bit of a different angle.
- This shows where the ancient landslide slid into the Gorge. From this vantage point the Columbia River looks dammed today. In the lower left of the photo you can see a more recent landslide which occurred in early 2008.
- Sandy River Canyon
- Ponytail Falls waterfall is about 110 feet high and is on Horsetail Creek in the Columbia River Gorge. This is classified as a horsetail waterfall.
- Woodpeckers have been busy here looking for bugs to eat in this rotten tree trunk near the parking lot. Look for other snags in the park that have been used by the woodpeckers.
- Whispy clouds and frosty rocks provide a wintery scene on the shady side of the ridge. This is on a promontory west of the Pacific Crest Trail on the way to Twin Lakes Trail.
