We found this bark beetle crawling on the log and prodded it into the the light for a better picture. This bug crawled pretty slow so it must be a very nasty tasting bug.

One of the nice campsites along the trail. This was near June Lake and there weren't any bugs there to speak of. Pretty good for camping in July! You can see our food suspended from nylong bags. We never had any animal issues with our food on this trip an
Jude Lake with two of our travelers on the far side of the lake. This lake had lots of salamanders in it and carpenter ants in the campsite.
Jude Lake was a great place to camp and the lake was shallow and relatively warm.

We spotted a helicopter carrying water to fight a nearby fire. Luckily the fire never came close to us but it did cause portions of the PCT to be closed.

Here is our first close-up view of Mt. Jefferson from the PCT. This is a very rocky section and the Scouts very cautions crossing this part of the trail though the lack of trees made for spectacular views.

Campsite at Breitenbush Lake. This was the worst place on the whole trail for mosquitoes. The mosquitoes died in our food as we heated it up and we ate, then stayed, in the tents.
Sunrise on Breitenbush Lake. I'm sure this lake would be more hospitable in the fall but we had clouds of mosquitoes around the lake.
