- Bonneville Dam was near the starting elevation for this hike. The elevation gain is apparant and there is plenty more to come.

- This giant hemlock tree shows its wrinkles from old age in tht Grove of the Patriarchs.
- Looking out over the Palouse from a break in the pine trees.
- Looking towards Washington across the Columbia River Gorge from Rowena Crest at Tom McCall Nature Preserve.
- Climbing the Palmateer trail soon brings you to the timberline and the views become more impressive with every few steps.
- Mt. Adams with Lunch Counter in view. Lunch Counter looks like the first peak from this vantage point.
- The Mt. Fremont trail provides fantastic views of the northern side of Mt. Rainier.
- Licorice fern (Latin name: Polypodium glycyrrhizais) growing on a small tree. Licorice fern is named because of the sweet, licorice-flavored rhizomes.
- Beach at Oswald West State Park. This view is looking north towards Cape Falcon.
- Newton Creek in the depths of winter. This creek is about 5 feet wide and at the bottom of about a 12 foot deep snow canyon.
- Red and yellow Columbine flowers (Latin Name: Aquilegia formosa) blooming along the Owyhigh Trail in Mt. Rainier National Park.

- Mt. Hood rises above the forests and puts on a show for those select places with an unobstructed view. This promontory is a great spot to take in the view.
